Our story

A loving home. Built by a family, for families.

A Place Called Home opened its doors in June 2012 with a single conviction: when a loved one needs care, what they deserve is a home — not a facility.

"Our parents gave us their best — so now we give them ours."

Our beginning

Founded on a simple idea.

When we opened our first home on Calimyrna Avenue in June 2012, the senior care landscape in Fresno County looked like it does most places: large facilities, long hallways, rotating staff, and pricing structures designed to surprise families at the worst possible moments.

We didn't build APCH to compete with that. We built it to offer something genuinely different — a loving residential home, with a small number of residents, attentive caregivers around the clock, and a single flat rate that doesn't change as care needs grow.

Thirteen years and 10 homes later — across five Clovis & Fresno neighborhoods — that conviction hasn't changed.

Meet the Founder

David personally welcomes every family.

David Murchison founded A Place Called Home in June 2012 with one home on Calimyrna Avenue and the conviction that senior care should look like a loving home — not an institution.

Thirteen years and 10 homes later, David still personally welcomes every family that tours, and oversees the training of every caregiver across all 10 homes. As Owner, Founder, and Director of Nursing, he sets the care standard that defines APCH today.

Our philosophy

Care that looks like love.

"A place full of love, for the people you love."

The difference between an institution and a home isn't the building — it's the rhythm. Meals around a single table. A caregiver who knows your mother's morning routine. Birthday cards on the dining room mantel. Grandkids welcome any time of day.

Our 1:3 care ratio isn't a marketing number. It's the staffing level that makes that rhythm possible.

  • Two caregivers throughout the day
  • One awake caregiver overnight
  • Registered nurses available to direct or visit any home, 24 hours a day
  • Private bedrooms in loving residential homes
  • Home-cooked meals from scratch, three times a day
  • One flat rate — no surprise level-of-care fees

The Murchison family crest — a shield bearing a lion, pineapples, and a scallop shell The story behind our crest

A family crest, for a family business.

Our emblem is the Murchison family crest — the heritage of the Murchison family who founded and run A Place Called Home. In heraldry, each part carries a meaning that mirrors how we care:

The pineapple
The timeless symbol of hospitality and welcome.
The lion
Courage, strength, and loyalty.
The scallop shell
The mark of the traveler — and of a home that offers safe harbor.

"Our parents gave us their best — so now we give them ours."
